If you are planning to work in the UAE as an Ayurveda practitioner, homeopath, acupuncturist, Hijama therapist or another complementary medicine professional, understanding the licensing route is an important first step.
The MOH UAE TCAM license process usually begins with professional evaluation through the Ministry of Health and Prevention, commonly called MOHAP. The authority reviews your credentials, requires primary source verification and determines the assessment requirements. After evaluation, the employing healthcare facility applies for the appropriate professional license.
A successful examination or an evaluation certificate does not, by itself, authorize clinical practice.
This Nursing Manthra guide explains eligibility, documents, DataFlow, Prometric and oral assessment, application steps and preparation support for practitioners and therapists.
What Is MOHAP TCAM Licensing?
TCAM stands for Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The current Unified Healthcare Professional Qualification Requirements also use TCIM: Traditional Complementary and Integrative Medicine.
MOHAP publishes separate services for professional evaluation and licensing/re-licensing. Evaluation establishes the assessed professional category and eligibility; licensing links the professional to the relevant healthcare facility.
Confirm the authority responsible for your intended workplace before applying. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and particular healthcare zones may have their own regulatory routes. A MOHAP evaluation should not be described as automatic permission to work anywhere in the UAE.
Which Practitioners and Therapists Are Covered?
The Unified PQR’s TCIM chapter includes the following professional titles:
- Acupuncture Practitioner
- Ayurveda Practitioner
- Ayurveda Massage Therapist
- Chiropractor Practitioner
- Herbal / Oriental Medicine Practitioner
- Homeopathy Practitioner
- Naturopathy Practitioner
- Osteopathy Practitioner
- Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner
- Chinese Massage Therapist
- Unani Practitioner
- Hijama Therapist
- Traditional Japanese Medicine Practitioner
- Traditional Korean Medicine Practitioner
These are qualification-framework titles. MOHAP must confirm the available title and assessment route for your individual application. Do not choose a similar title simply because your preferred one is not visible.
General MOHAP TCAM Eligibility Requirements
Before paying, check your qualification against the exact PQR title. The assessment considers:
- Recognized professional education and programme duration.
- Theory, practical and supervised clinical hours.
- Internship or clinical training, where required.
- Professional registration in your home country or country of last practice, where applicable.
- Relevant experience supported by an appropriate professional license.
- Good standing and any professional conduct history.
- Valid Basic Life Support certification.
- Recency of practice and any career gap.
Physicians seeking a TCIM discipline as an additional scope need the relevant Authority physician license and approved additional training. A physician license alone does not authorize every complementary medicine discipline.
The general evaluation page describes some records as optional for new graduates. That does not waive title-specific TCAM experience requirements for every overseas graduate.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
The table below summarizes common routes under the current Unified PQR. It is a guide to document preparation; MOHAP decides equivalence and the appropriate classification.
| Professional title | Main qualification route | Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Acupuncture Practitioner | Five-year full-time acupuncture degree including internship; or an accredited minimum two-year/part-time equivalent route with 2,500 teaching hours or the specified NCCAOM/equivalent certification route | 2 years for the degree route; 3 years for the shorter route |
| Ayurveda Practitioner | BAMS/equivalent, minimum five years including internship, with 4,500 theory/practical hours and 1,000 internship hours; or a recognized 3–4-year programme with 2,500 hours plus 500 supervised internship hours | 2 years for the degree route; 4 years for the shorter route |
| Ayurveda Massage Therapist | At least 500 classroom hours or a one-year Ayurveda massage course | 2 years; supervised practice required |
| Chiropractor Practitioner | Recognized chiropractic qualification, minimum four years full-time and 4,200 contact hours | 2 years |
| Herbal / Oriental Medicine Practitioner | Relevant professional bachelor’s degree, minimum four years including internship | 2 years |
| Homeopathy Practitioner | BHMS/licentiate, minimum five years including internship; or accredited minimum three-year homeopathy programme | 2 years for the longer route; 4 years for the three-year route |
| Naturopathy Practitioner | ND/BNYS/BSc/equivalent, minimum four years including supervised clinical training | 2 years |
| Osteopathy Practitioner | Recognized osteopathy qualification, minimum four years and 1,000 supervised clinical training hours | 2 years |
| Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner | Recognized five-year qualification including a one-year internship; or a 3–4-year programme with 2,400 total hours, including 900 clinical practicum hours | 2 years for the degree route; 4 years for the shorter route |
| Chinese Massage Therapist | Relevant three-year TCM college/vocational route plus one-year supervised internship; or a 500-hour Chinese massage course plus one-year supervised internship | 2 years; supervised practice required |
| Unani Practitioner | BUMS/BEMS or the specified equivalent four-year qualification including supervised clinical practicum | 2 years |
| Hijama Therapist | Specific qualification/training routes and existing-license conditions; see the dedicated section below | 2 years |
| Traditional Japanese Medicine Practitioner | Physician route with accredited fellowship training and the relevant national examination | 2 years |
| Traditional Korean Medicine Practitioner | Accredited four-year training, comprising one year general practice and three years specialization, after passing the national examination | 2 years |
Additional physician privilege routes appear in the PQR. Check their training hours and experience requirements separately.
Certain experience exemptions apply to eligible UAE graduates, UAE nationals and children of Emirati women. Overseas applicants must not assume those provisions apply to them.
Ayurveda Practitioner and Ayurveda Massage Therapist: Different Titles
Ayurveda Practitioner
The principal degree route is BAMS or an equivalent minimum five-year programme including internship, with the specified theory/practical and internship hours. The current table lists two years of related post-qualification experience for this route.
A recognized shorter Ayurveda education route carries different training-hour and experience requirements. A course called “Ayurveda” is not automatically equivalent to BAMS.
Ayurveda Massage Therapist
This is a separate title requiring at least 500 hours of classes or a one-year Ayurveda massage course, plus two years of related post-qualification experience.
The therapist must work under an Ayurveda Practitioner’s supervision. The title does not authorize independent Ayurveda diagnosis or practitioner-level care.
Chinese Massage Therapists similarly work under the supervision of a Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner.
MOHAP Hijama Therapist Requirements
Hijama applicants should review the full qualification row and its restrictions, rather than relying only on a course-hour advertisement.
The current PQR includes routes based on:
- High-school education plus an accredited two-year Hijama programme.
- A healthcare bachelor’s qualification plus a one-year Hijama programme.
- An existing eligible UAE healthcare license and minimum BSc qualification, together with an Authority-approved programme of at least 25 CME hours.
The listed training routes require evidence of 20 Hijama treatment cases, and the experience column specifies two years of related post-qualification experience.
The footnotes require healthcare-facility practice and link the Hijama title to an existing Authority license, except for the stated UAE-national/children-of-Emirati-women provisions. A person with a short training certificate should not assume they can obtain a first independent Hijama license.
MOHAP also lists Ministerial Decision No. 172 of 2025 on national standards for Hijama therapy. Applicants and facilities should check the applicable standard alongside the PQR. This guide does not treat course eligibility as a substitute for operational, safety or facility requirements.
Older references to a universal 50-hour course should not replace the current route-specific assessment. Keep your curriculum, training-hour breakdown, accreditation and case records available.
Documents Required for MOH UAE TCAM Evaluation
Prepare clear, complete scans with consistent names and dates.
| Document | Preparation point |
|---|---|
| Valid passport | Use current identity details throughout the application |
| Recent photograph | Follow the portal’s specifications |
| Qualification certificates | Include primary and relevant additional qualifications |
| Academic transcript/mark sheets | Show the programme’s content and training hours |
| Internship/clinical training evidence | Match the requirements for the intended title |
| Professional registration/license | Cover the period of practice claimed |
| Experience certificates | Confirm dates, position and relevant work |
| Good Standing Certificate | Obtain the appropriate regulator-issued record |
| BLS certificate | Keep the certification valid |
| Updated CV | Align the employment history with supporting records |
| Previous DataFlow reports | Upload unprotected copies where requested |
| Name-change evidence | Explain different names across documents |
| Exemption documents | Supply evidence if requesting an examination exemption |
| Additional course/case records | Particularly important for Hijama and additional scopes |
MOHAP may request further records. Family-book or related nationality evidence applies to eligible applicants claiming the corresponding provisions.
The current evaluation page requests legal English translations of non-English certificates, submitted with the originals. Follow the live upload instructions for your documents rather than assuming another regulator’s translation rules apply.

MOH UAE TCAM Application Process: Step by Step
Step 1: Check the Professional Title
Compare your qualification, clinical training, registration and experience with the PQR. Confirm that the intended facility can employ you under the proposed service and scope.
If a programme or title is unclear, seek assessment before purchasing an examination or verification package.
Step 2: Access the MOHAP Evaluation Service
Open the official Evaluation of Health Professional page. MOHAP’s published process directs applicants to sign in using UAE PASS.
Follow the current onboarding requirements. If you are applying from overseas and cannot complete access, use MOHAP support rather than opening accounts with inconsistent identity details.
Step 3: Submit the Evaluation Request
Complete the professional details, upload the required documents, include previous DataFlow reports and any exemption evidence, and pay the relevant fee.
Choose the correct category. A BAMS or BHMS holder applying in a TCAM category should not automatically use the conventional physician fee merely because the applicant uses “doctor” professionally.
Step 4: Complete the Directed DataFlow Verification
MOHAP’s published process describes review followed by a link for verification payment. Use the verification instructions issued for your application.
The issuing university, professional council and employers may need to respond. Monitor requests and supply missing information promptly.
Step 5: Complete the Assigned Examination or Exemption Review
MOHAP determines whether a Prometric, written, oral or other prescribed assessment is required. Follow all stages assigned to your title.
Upload exemption evidence if you believe a PQR provision applies. An exemption request is not approval.
Step 6: Receive the Evaluation Certificate
When the requirements are met, MOHAP issues the evaluation letter. Its guide describes a unique R Number, professional category, specialty and title.
Check the details and any remarks. An evaluation letter is separate from the professional practice license.
Step 7: Accept the Facility’s Work Invitation
The employing facility starts the licensing service and sends the professional invitation. Accept the invitation through the instructed account route.
MOHAP’s licensing page also identifies additional acceptance requirements for a transfer from an existing facility.
Step 8: Complete Professional Licensing
The facility submits the licensing request and requested records. MOHAP requires a valid evaluation and verified documents, along with the applicable employment and insurance requirements.
Wait until the professional license has been issued and all relevant permissions are in place before commencing clinical practice.
MOHAP DataFlow Verification for TCAM Professionals
Primary source verification checks credentials with the organizations that issued them. It is separate from an embassy stamp or a course provider’s accreditation claim.
A practical checklist is:
- Select the correct regulator and instructed package.
- Enter the qualification and employment details exactly.
- Upload complete, readable records.
- Sign the required authorization.
- Pay the displayed fees.
- Save the case reference.
- Respond to additional-document requests.
- Confirm that the report is available to the evaluation application.
A positive verification result does not guarantee title approval. MOHAP still assesses the qualification and experience against the PQR.
Can I Reuse a DataFlow Report?
MOHAP asks for previous reports, so include all relevant unprotected copies. The authority/provider decides whether transfer, re-issuance or additional checks are needed.
New qualifications, renewed registration or additional employment may require further verification. Do not assume an existing report removes every verification fee.
Does DataFlow Need Attestation?
DataFlow states that its own PSV process does not require attestation/apostille. MOHAP, an employer or an immigration authority may separately request documents in a particular form. Check those requirements independently.
MOH TCAM Prometric, Written and Oral Exams
The assessment instructions issued for your MOHAP application determine the route.
MOHAP’s evaluation guide describes Prometric, written and oral assessment functions. This does not establish that all TCAM applicants take all three, or that every title has the same examination format.
I could not verify a current official MOHAP table setting out the question count, duration and pass mark for every TCAM profession. For that reason, do not use DHA exam codes or DHA’s 100-question/60% figures as MOHAP specifications.
Prometric Examination
Where assigned:
- Use the eligibility identifier generated through MOHAP.
- Follow the linked booking instructions.
- Select the correct regulator and approved professional examination.
- Check the booking fee, identification rules and deadlines.
- Retain the confirmation and result instructions.
MOHAP’s published guide mentions a 15-day validity for the generated Prometric eligibility ID. Treat this as a booking-related identifier deadline and check the notice in your own account; do not assume it means the full evaluation or license lasts only 15 days.
Written Examination
Where a written assessment is assigned, follow the approved schedule and payment instructions. The guide describes scheduling within 60 days of approval. Use the current application notice for the applicable deadline.
Do not rely on older claims that every TCAM examination runs only a fixed number of times per year.
Oral Assessment
MOHAP’s guide describes an oral examination conducted through an examination officer, with results notified through the portal.
An oral assessment may examine professional reasoning, safe practice, limitations of scope and communication. The following are suggested preparation themes rather than a promised MOHAP question list:
- History-taking and recognition of warning symptoms.
- Contraindications and treatment precautions.
- Referral and emergency escalation.
- Infection control and equipment safety.
- Consent, recordkeeping and professional boundaries.
- Supervision requirements for therapist titles.
Examination Attempts and Exemptions
MOHAP’s published evaluation guidance describes a maximum of three attempts per category, with retakes charged. The applicable PQR and current authority decision govern exceptions and further eligibility.
Do not advertise “three written attempts plus three oral attempts” as a universal entitlement, or assume a new account resets attempts.
An examination exemption does not automatically waive qualification requirements, experience or verification.
Career Gaps: Why Applicants Need an Individual Review
The current MOHAP evaluation service page states a practice gap should not exceed three years. The licensing service separately refers to a two-year gap and PQR training provisions.
These statements concern different services. A practitioner with a two- or three-year break should obtain guidance for both evaluation and licensing instead of relying on a blanket rule.
Prepare your last clinical working date, license status and any subsequent practice/training evidence before requesting review. Do not assume a refresher course automatically resolves every gap.
MOHAP TCAM Fees
| Item | Published amount or how to check |
|---|---|
| TCAM evaluation | AED 300 on the current evaluation service page |
| DataFlow | Separate; depends on the required package and records |
| Prometric/written/oral assessment | Confirm the fee assigned to your examination |
| Licensing application | AED 100 for the private/semi-government categories listed on the service page |
| Professional license | The general page lists AED 3,000 for doctors and AED 1,000 for nurses/technicians in private facilities; confirm the correct TCAM classification before budgeting |
| Other expenses | BLS, regulator records, translations, additional training, insurance and travel as applicable |
The licensing page does not provide a separate explicit fee for every TCAM title. Do not present the doctor or technician amount as a confirmed universal TCAM fee.
The AED 300 evaluation fee is not the total licensing cost. Always check the live payment notice.
How Long Does MOHAP TCAM Licensing Take?
The evaluation service lists five working days for its service stage. The licensing page lists one to two working days for that separate stage.
These figures do not cover the whole journey. Verification responses, missing documents, examination scheduling and employer readiness can add time.
Before agreeing to a joining date, check which stage is complete and what remains outstanding.
Evaluation Certificate Validity and Renewal
MOHAP’s published evaluation user manual describes five-year validity for evaluation certificates, subject to the relevant practice and licensing conditions. This is not five years of permission to treat patients.
Follow the validity stated on your own evaluation and professional license. A long career gap or change in title can affect what further assessment is needed.
For license renewal, the facility uses the official renewal service. MOHAP lists specialty-relevant CME and medical-error insurance among the requirements. Confirm the applicable CME total for your title rather than borrowing a number from physicians or nurses.

Common Application Mistakes
- Applying for a practitioner title with therapist-level training.
- Using DHA exam specifications for a MOHAP application.
- Claiming work experience outside the relevant professional registration period.
- Uploading incomplete transcripts or unclear course-hour evidence.
- Assuming a short Hijama course is sufficient on its own.
- Treating an evaluation letter as an active practice license.
- Ignoring a career gap or previous examination attempts.
- Booking the wrong regulator’s examination.
- Ordering a study package before confirming the assessment route.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can BAMS graduates apply for a MOH UAE Ayurveda license?
BAMS/equivalent is a listed PQR route. MOHAP assesses the programme, internship, registration, experience and other requirements.
Can BHMS graduates apply as Homeopathy Practitioners?
A qualifying BHMS/licentiate route is listed. The current PQR specifies the minimum programme duration and relevant experience.
Can Ayurveda Massage Therapists apply?
Yes, subject to the recognized title’s requirements, including the qualifying course, experience and supervision. A general spa certificate is not automatically equivalent.
Is every MOH TCAM exam Prometric?
No universal per-title rule was verified. Follow MOHAP’s approval and prescribed assessment stages, which can include Prometric, written or oral assessment.
Do all applicants take both written and oral exams?
Do not assume that. Complete the assessments specifically assigned to your title and application.
Can a DHA eligibility letter replace MOHAP evaluation?
MOHAP accepts submission of relevant exemption/eligibility evidence for review. Acceptance and the remaining requirements are decided by MOHAP; it is not an automatic license conversion.
Can I apply from outside the UAE?
The evaluation service provides an online application route. Check access requirements and any assessment attendance instructions. Final employment and licensing involve the healthcare facility.
Does a positive DataFlow report guarantee approval?
No. It confirms verification outcomes; MOHAP decides eligibility.
Can I work anywhere in the UAE with a MOHAP evaluation?
No. Confirm the regulator, facility and active professional license required for the workplace.
