Dubai: The UAE has successfully carried out 1,026 organ transplant surgeries from 2024 until the end of June this year, according to officials from the national organ donation and transplantation programme.
Of the total procedures, 352 transplants were performed in 2024, 452 in 2025, and 222 during the first half of this year.
Authorities said the country has also witnessed a significant increase in organ donations from deceased donors, particularly from patients declared brain-dead. Organ donation reportedly increased by around 35 percent during the 2024–2025 period.
Dr. Ali Abdulkarim Al Obaidli, Chairman of the UAE National Transplant Committee, said that 451 lives were saved through various organ transplant procedures last year.
The most commonly transplanted organs in the UAE include the kidneys, liver, heart and lungs.
Officials attributed the continued growth of the country’s transplant programme to strong government support, appropriate legislation, greater public awareness and participation, and the expansion of transplant services across healthcare facilities.
At present, nine hospitals provide kidney transplant services, while five hospitals perform liver transplantation procedures.
The country’s organ donation and transplantation programme works in coordination with the National Center for Regulating Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues.
Officials also noted that the UAE is increasingly becoming a regional destination for advanced transplant treatment. Patients from other GCC countries who previously travelled to the United States or Europe for specialised treatment are now seeking healthcare services in the UAE.
