Planning to work in Qatar as a laboratory professional, physiotherapist, radiographer or another allied healthcare professional? Before starting your application, you need to understand the correct professional category, verification requirements and employer-supported licensing process.
Many applicants still search for a QCHP licence or Qatar Prometric licence. The current regulator is the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) under Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health. DHP replaced the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners in 2019.
This guide explains the application stages, documents, examinations, fees and important updates for allied health and paramedical applicants.
Who Needs a Qatar Allied Healthcare Licence?
This guide covers applicants seeking approval to practise in recognised allied healthcare professions in Qatar.
Examples include:
- Medical laboratory technology.
- Radiography and medical imaging.
- Physiotherapy.
- Occupational therapy.
- Anaesthesia technology.
- Dietetics.
- Dental laboratory technology.
- Dental assisting and dental hygiene.
- Paramedic and emergency medical services.
- Other recognised allied healthcare disciplines.
“Paramedical” is a broad description, not a single licensing category. Your qualification and clinical background must support the specific scope of practice you request.
Qatar Allied Health Licensing: The Main Stages
The usual pathway is:
- Confirm your professional category and eligibility.
- Complete Primary Source Verification.
- Pass the qualifying examination, if required.
- Submit the evaluation application through the employer-supported system.
- Complete the licensing-stage requirements.
- Receive the professional licence before starting clinical practice.
An evaluation certificate or examination pass alone does not authorise practice.
Eligibility Requirements
Relevant academic qualification
Your qualification must meet the requirements for the requested scope. Degree or diploma title, programme duration, academic subjects and practical training can affect the assessment.
Prepare complete transcripts rather than relying only on the final certificate.
Required clinical experience
Experience requirements vary by professional scope and applicant category. Check the DHP allied healthcare requirements for your exact title.
Do not assume that an experience exemption applying to one category extends to every international applicant.
Professional registration
Prepare the applicable professional licence or registration covering your required employment experience.
Examination and verification
DHP’s allied healthcare evaluation checklist requires a verification report and a qualifying examination passing certificate where an examination applies.
Important Update: Experience and Examination Exemptions
DHP Circular 2025/24, dated 30 December 2025, updated the rules for specified applicant groups.
For allied healthcare professions:
| Applicant category | Experience position under the circular |
|---|---|
| Graduates of recognised higher education institutions in Qatar | Exempt from work-experience requirements, subject to the circular’s scope-specific conditions |
| Qataris and children of Qatari women graduating overseas | Exempt from work-experience requirements, subject to applicable conditions |
| Children of residents and spouses of residents graduating overseas | One year of work experience required; an approved supervised-training route may be available |
The circular also provides qualifying-examination exemptions for Qataris, children of Qatari women and graduates of higher education institutions in Qatar. Psychology scopes have additional conditions and exceptions.
For other overseas applicants, follow the experience requirements for your professional scope. Being a fresh graduate or holding family residency should not be treated as an automatic exemption.
Documents Required for Qatar DHP Evaluation
Prepare the following:
| Document | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| Valid passport | Clear personal-details copy |
| QID or applicable national ID | Follow the evaluation-stage instructions |
| Recent photograph | Meet DHP’s photograph specifications |
| Updated CV | Use the approved format where required |
| Academic certificates | Relevant degree, diploma and supporting qualifications |
| Official transcripts | Complete academic record |
| Experience certificates | Relevant employment with issue dates |
| Professional registration or licences | Applicable records supporting the required experience |
| Primary Source Verification report | Report from a DHP-approved provider |
| Qualifying examination certificate | If required for your scope |
The government’s preliminary evaluation service requires qualifications, experience and registration records to align with the profession requested. It states that the qualifying examination certificate must be valid, with a listed validity of three years.
Keep internship records, clinical training details, translations and evidence explaining name differences available if requested.

Qatar DHP/QCHP Application Process: Step by Step
Step 1: Confirm Your Scope of Practice
Review the current allied healthcare guidelines before selecting an application category.
A laboratory technician and laboratory technologist, for example, have separate examination titles. Your application should reflect the category supported by your education.
Step 2: Coordinate With a Qatar Employer
Qatar’s standard evaluation route involves an employer or potential employer and the facility’s designated focal point.
DHP’s published FAQ states that an evaluation request cannot be submitted without an employer in Qatar. Much of the preparation can take place while the applicant remains overseas.
Before paying for a service, clarify who will submit and follow up on your application.
Step 3: Complete Primary Source Verification
Start verification through a provider listed on DHP’s official website.
DataFlow is not the only approved option. The current DHP page lists DataFlow, Quadrabay and Primary Source Verification as approved providers.
DHP instructs applicants to complete the verification process before submitting evaluation and attach the report to the application.
Step 4: Complete the Qualifying Examination, If Required
Confirm your examination category and any applicable exemption before booking.
Use the official DHP examination page and the designated booking route.
Step 5: Submit “Apply for Evaluation”
Complete the application through the DHP Registration and Licensing Electronic System.
Upload the required records, pay the evaluation fee and coordinate submission with the employer’s focal point. Respond promptly if the application is returned for clarification.
Step 6: Review the Evaluation Outcome
Check the approved scope and any conditions carefully. Approval at this stage does not replace the final licence.
DHP’s allied healthcare guidance also states that the Good Standing Certificate is required directly from the relevant authority during the licensing phase.
Step 7: Complete Final Licensing Requirements
Coordinate with your employer to provide the licensing-stage documents, including:
- Qatar ID.
- Medical report from an authorised entity.
- Criminal record clearance.
- Professional Good Standing Certificate.
- Verification and examination records.
- Other documents requested for your category.
The official permanent-licence service specifies that the Qatar police clearance must be addressed to the Ministry of Public Health for licensing purposes. It lists the medical report as valid for six months.
Step 8: Receive Your Licence Before Practising
Confirm that the licence has been issued for the correct scope and workplace. Start clinical work only after completing the applicable licensing and employment requirements.
Qatar Prometric Examination for Allied Healthcare Professionals
The current DHP examination page lists the following examples:
| Examination title | Questions | Duration | Published cut score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laboratory Technologist / Laboratory Technician | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
| Radiology Technologist / Radiology Technician | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
| Physiotherapist | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
| Occupational Therapist | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
| Anaesthesia Technologist | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
| Dietician | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
| Dental Assistant / Hygienist / Laboratory Technician | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
| Basic Paramedic / Paramedic | 150 MCQs | 3 hours | 50% |
DHP currently states that applicants may attempt the qualifying examination an unlimited number of times, with no rounding of examination scores. Confirm the current rules and booking conditions before each attempt.
These details apply to the listed examinations. Other scopes may require a different assessment or individual review.

Qatar Allied Health Licence Fees
| Stage | Published authority fee |
|---|---|
| Preliminary evaluation | QAR 100 |
| Permanent allied healthcare licence | QAR 600 |
The official government service pages publish these amounts. Verification, examination, translation and optional assistance charges are separate. Check the final amount shown before payment.
How Long Does the Process Take?
The government service catalogue lists:
- Allied healthcare evaluation: 15 working days.
- Permanent allied healthcare licensing: 10 working days.
These are service-stage estimates, not the complete duration including verification, examination and document preparation. Incomplete applications and delayed responses can extend the timeline.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Selecting a scope that does not match your qualification.
- Assuming every applicant qualifies without experience.
- Confusing an examination pass with a professional licence.
- Beginning evaluation without confirming employer participation.
- Uploading incomplete transcripts or inconsistent employment dates.
- Assuming a UAE or Saudi verification report automatically satisfies Qatar’s requirements.
- Using old examination patterns without checking the current DHP page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are QCHP and DHP different licensing routes?

Some scopes accept specified diplomas. Eligibility depends on the exact qualification and professional category.
Is DataFlow compulsory?
Primary Source Verification is required, subject to applicable exemptions. Use a provider currently approved by DHP; DataFlow is one option.

Does passing Prometric guarantee a job?
No. Examination, licensing and recruitment are separate decisions.
Start by confirming your professional scope and employer-supported application route. Then prepare the documents and assessments required for your circumstances.
Requirements and fees may change. Check the current DHP website, profession-specific guidance and circulars before applying.
