For a nurse considering a move into an aesthetic clinic, laser hair reduction can be an appealing career direction. But completing a course and becoming licensed are separate steps. You need your qualifications assessed for the laser title and the correct licensing action completed before you start working in that role.
Although often called a “nurse licence upgrade”, this is a change in professional role. The recognised title is Laser Hair Reduction Technician.
Who can apply?
The official MOHAP-hosted PQR identifies a pathway for healthcare professionals licensed by a UAE health regulatory authority as a Registered Nurse, Assistant Nurse or Beauty Therapist. It requires an accredited laser hair reduction training course and evidence of at least ten hands-on training cases. That licensed-professional pathway lists no additional experience requirement, subject to gap-of-practice criteria.
Applicants relying on academic qualifications without the relevant UAE professional licence have a separate pathway involving related experience. Do not assume that all nurses qualify under identical conditions. MOHAP must confirm the current PQR pathway applicable to your file.
Before paying for a laser course
Ask for written confirmation of:
- The exact certificate you will receive and the training provider’s accreditation.
- Whether the programme is accepted for your intended MOHAP application.
- How the ten supervised practical cases will be completed and documented.
- Whether practical training, assessment and certificate charges are included.
- The refund policy if you cannot meet the admission or licensing requirements.
A course advertised as “internationally recognised” is not, by itself, proof of MOHAP acceptance. Course duration alone also does not establish eligibility.
Application process: step by step
1. Review your existing licence and employment situation
Check your current nursing title, licensing authority, licence validity and any practice gap. Confirm that your intended workplace falls under MOHAP.
If you already hold a MOHAP licence, discuss the proposed change with your facility’s licensing officer. Avoid cancelling your nursing licence simply to begin the process.
2. Complete suitable training
Finish an accredited laser hair reduction programme and obtain the certificate and practical case evidence. Keep a clear, signed record of the supervised training. Ask the provider to correct any name or date errors before submission.
3. Apply for evaluation for the laser title
Use the official MOHAP Evaluation of Health Professional service. Existing applicants should use their established professional account and seek instructions for evaluation under the new title.
Upload the applicable qualification and supporting records, pay the fee shown for your category and respond to any requests for clarification.
4. Complete verification and assessment if required
MOHAP may require additional credential verification and a prescribed examination. Follow the instructions issued for your application. Do not assume that passing the nursing exam automatically exempts you from assessment for a different title.

5. Obtain the new evaluation approval
Check the title and any conditions on your evaluation certificate. An evaluation is a licensing prerequisite; it does not alone authorise practice.
6. Complete the facility licensing action
For an eligible professional already licensed at the applicant facility, MOHAP provides a Change Title of Licensed Health Professional service. It requires a valid evaluation for the new title, an active professional licence with that facility and a valid facility licence.
If you are joining a new employer or require a new licence, the facility should confirm the appropriate licensing or transfer route.
7. Confirm approval before starting laser duties
Ask your employer to verify the final licence status, approved role and facility permissions before assigning laser treatments.
Documents to prepare
This is a preparation checklist. The final upload requirements depend on your evaluation and licensing route.
| Document | Purpose or applicability |
|---|---|
| Valid passport | Identity and evaluation application |
| Nursing qualification certificate | Evidence of academic eligibility |
| Academic transcript | Education review |
| Current UAE professional licence | Evidence for the licensed-professional pathway |
| Home-country registration/licence | Where applicable to registration and experience history |
| Laser training certificate | Evidence of the required additional training |
| Evidence of ten hands-on training cases | Practical training requirement |
| Experience certificates | Where required by the applicable pathway |
| Good Standing/professional conduct certificate | If required by MOHAP for your file |
| Previous DataFlow reports | Submit available reports as requested |
| English legal translations | For documents issued in other languages |
| New MOHAP evaluation approval | Required before the title-change stage |
Keep Emirates ID, a recent photograph and an updated CV ready if requested by the portal or facility.
MOHAP’s newer title-change service card lists no separate required documents, while an older official guide lists a facility request letter, business card copy and assessment certificate. Follow the live application prompts and any officer’s request.

MOHAP laser technician licence fees
There is no single published all-inclusive “nurse to laser technician upgrade fee”.
| Item | Published fee or costing basis |
|---|---|
| Allied health evaluation | AED 300 |
| Nursing/midwifery evaluation | AED 400 |
| Change title: nurses/technicians | AED 100 |
| New licensing application: private/semi-government facilities | AED 100 |
| Nurse/technician licence issuance: private facilities | AED 1,000 |
| Laser course | Provider’s quotation |
| Additional verification | Assigned verification package |
| Examination, if required | Official booking instructions |
| Translation and other supporting services | Actual charges |
The evaluation service publishes category-based fees; confirm how your laser-title application is classified before payment.
The AED 100 title-change fee is not the complete cost. Equally, do not automatically add new-licence issuance fees to an existing-licence title change. Your facility must identify the applicable transaction.
Any Nursing Manthra assistance fee is separate and should be confirmed before processing.
How long does it take?
MOHAP lists five working days for evaluation and an instant service duration for title change. New licensing/re-licensing lists one to two working days. These are individual service durations, not a promise for the full journey.
Training availability, document corrections, verification, examinations and facility action can extend the overall timeline.
Can I retain my nursing title?
Ask MOHAP to confirm whether your case permits retaining nursing authorisation alongside the laser title or requires a title change. Do not apply another authority’s dual-title policy automatically to MOHAP.
Also confirm how changing your role could affect evidence of recent nursing practice if you plan to return to bedside nursing later.
Frequently asked questions
Can an Assistant Nurse apply?
The MOHAP-hosted PQR includes Assistant Nurses in the laser hair reduction eligibility pathways. The authority must still approve the individual applicant’s qualifications and training.
Is one year of laser experience compulsory for every nurse?
The PQR distinguishes licensed healthcare professionals from applicants using the academic-qualification pathway. The licensed-professional route lists no additional experience requirement, subject to the relevant conditions.
Is a one-week course enough?
Duration alone is insufficient. Acceptance depends on the programme, accreditation, practical training evidence and MOHAP’s assessment.
Does this licence cover all aesthetic treatments?
Do not treat a laser hair reduction title as authorisation for Botox, fillers, tattoo removal, resurfacing or other cosmetic procedures. Obtain confirmation of the permitted scope and any separate approvals.
Can I start after receiving my course certificate?
Complete evaluation and the applicable facility licensing action first.
