1. Demographic Information

Applicants must demonstrate recent nursing practice experience.
Updated requirement:
- 450 hours of RN experience within the last 2 years
OR
- 1125 hours of RN practice within the last 5 years
These hours must be in a recognized nursing role such as Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner.
3. Educational Requirements
To apply for CRNA registration, you must have:
- Bachelor of Nursing (BSc Nursing) OR
- Postgraduate Nursing Degree
Your education must be assessed through credential evaluation agencies like WES or IQAS.
4. English Language Requirement (Mandatory)
Since October 2024, CRNA requires proof of English proficiency for internationally educated nurses.
Accepted tests:
CELBAN (Canadian English Language Benchmark Assessment for Nurses)
Minimum scores:

IELTS Academic
Minimum scores:

5. Criminal Record Check
Applicants must submit a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC).

Living Outside Canada
You can obtain a Police Clearance Certificate from your local police authority.
Important:
PCC validity is 6 months from the issue date.
6. Jurisprudence Examination
All applicants must complete two mandatory online learning modules in College Connect.
These include:
- Alberta nursing jurisprudence
- Protecting patients from sexual abuse and misconduct
After completing the learning modules, you must pass the jurisprudence examination.
7. Professional Liability Protection (PLP)
Before receiving a permit to practice, nurses must obtain Professional Liability Protection through CNPS (Canadian Nurses Protective Society).
