Application Guidelines

To ensure a smooth application process, follow these key steps:

  • Submit all required documents correctly and in the designated fields.
  • Incomplete or incorrectly uploaded documents will lead to disqualification.

Eligibility Criteria

Academic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in medicine or dentistry from a recognized institution listed in the World Health Organization (WHO) directory of approved health institutions.
  • A completion certificate for internship training is mandatory. Applicants must have successfully passed their final MBBS/MD exams before starting their internship year.

Timeframe for Application

  • Candidates must apply within five years of graduating from medical or dental school.
  • Applicants should not have been out of clinical practice for more than 24 months at any given time (exceptions apply for UAE Nationals completing national service or Covid-19-related interruptions).

Mandatory Licensing Examinations

To qualify, applicants must pass a post-qualifying residency entrance examination:

  • Medical Graduates:
    • Emirates Medical Residency Entrance Examination (EMREE)
    • Saudi Medical Licensing Examination (SMLE)
  • Dental Graduates:
    • Emirates Dental Residency Entrance Examination (EDREE)
    • Saudi Dental Licensing Examination (SDLE)

Additional Notes

  • For candidates with a degree awarded outside the UAE, an Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) – General with Grade Average evaluation is required to evaluate transcripts and provide a standard GPA. More details can be found at www.ece.org.
  • For EMREE/EDREE, a passing score within a cycle will be considered a first attempt, regardless of prior results. However, if a candidate initially fails within the same cycle and then passes, it will be considered a second attempt, leading to a deduction in the EMREE score.
  • Candidates will join the program as full-time trainees. Combining more than one postgraduate program will not be permitted.
  • Enrollment in the program is subject to successfully completing the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) licensing process

Note:
Native English speakers and those who completed their latest degree in an English-medium institution may be exempt from the English proficiency requirement, subject to Committee approval. Certificate validity requirements can also be waived with a university letter confirming English as the medium of instruction

Portfolio

Research Activities Examples: Writing a Proposal, Collecting Data, Analyzing Data, Writing a Manuscript, Case Study etc. Validity: The activity must have occurred since entering medical/dental school (ensure the date is indicated on the letter). 
Publications Eligibility: Should be in a peer-reviewed journal. It can be the same entry as the research activity. Not Accepted: Abstracts and thesis studies or draft Manuscripts Validity: The activity must have occurred since entering medical/dental school (ensure the date is indicated). 
Presentation at a Scientific Event Examples: Conference, Symposium, Workshop, etc.  Eligibility: must be health-related. Not Accepted: Attendance certificate and presenting during academic days or ground round at the university will not be considered Validity: The activity must have occurred since entering medical/dental school (ensure the date is indicated on the certificate). 
Voluntary Social/ Community Activities  Examples: Participating in organizing or speaking in a community engagement event. Must be health related such as health awareness campaigns. Eligibility: Activities organized or supervised by universities, official health associations, or government-licensed organizations. Target Audience: Activities aimed at the general public.  Not Accepted: Activities conducted at the university for fellow students are not eligible. Volunteering to organize a conference or a workshop is not accepted. Validity: The activity must have occurred since entering medical/dental school (ensure the date is indicated on the certificate/letter). 
Skill Enhancement Courses Examples: Basic Life Support, Advanced life support, Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certificate (POCUS), Leadership, Quality etc.  Eligibility: Online courses are accepted.  Not Accepted: Certificate of Completion for entrance exams or preparatory courses are not accepted. Validity: The activity must have occurred since entering medical/dental school (ensure the date is indicated on the certificate). 
Academic Awards Examples: Dean list, Best Paper, Best research, Best presentation etc. Eligibility: related to academic/research achievements. Not Accepted: Photos of physical awards. Validity: The award must have been obtained since entering medical/dental school (ensure the date is indicated on the certificate/letter). 
Extra-Curricular Activities Examples: Clinical attachment, summer placement, teaching, member of councils within the university, etc Validity: The activity must have occurred since entering medical/dental school (ensure the date is indicated on the certificate/letter).

Identification Documents

All applications for our Graduate Medical Education programs must be submitted online. Hard copies will not be accepted.

Required Documents:
✅ Recent high-resolution colored photo
✅ Valid passport copy (UAE Nationals must include the Ethbara page)
✅ Emirates ID (if applicable)
✅ Family Book (UAE Nationals) / Mother’s Family Book (for children of UAE national mothers)
✅ Valid Marsoom letter (for Marsoom holders)
✅ Residency Permit (if applicable)

Academic Documents

Selection Process

A complete application requires successful document submission and fee payment. The selection includes four phases:

🔹 Phase 2: Multiple Mini-Interviews (MMI) (30%)
🔹 Phase 3: Specialty Interview (20%)
🔹 Phase 4: Ranking & Offering

Shortlisting

Applications are reviewed based on Residency Entrance Exam performance and portfolio evaluation (20 points):
✅ Research Activity – 4 points
✅ Publications – 6 points
✅ Scientific Presentations – 4 points
✅ Voluntary Community Work (max 2) – 2 points each
✅ Skill Enhancement Courses (max 2) – 2 points each
✅ Extra-Curricular Activities (max 2) – 2 points each
✅ Academic Awards – 4 points

Candidates receive shortlisting scores via the portal and may approve or appeal within 48 hours.

Multiple Mini-Interviews (MMI)

Shortlisted candidates are invited for on-site MMI, which evaluates non-cognitive skills like:
✅ Communication
✅ Problem-Solving
✅ Empathy
✅ Ethical Reasoning
✅ Decision-Making

Candidates rotate through 10-15 timed interview stations, each lasting ~5 minutes. Some involve role players, while others are observation-based. The full process takes about 90 minutes.

Specialty Interview

Candidates are invited based on Phase 1 & 2 scores. Unsuccessful applicants receive regret notices.

Ranking & Offering

Final ranking is based on:

Candidates receive admission decisions by late June after the Cross Match process, ensuring fair selection across UAE training programs.
