Application process

  • Entry-level nursing education (e.g. Associates Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, post graduate qualification leading to registration).
  • CGFNS requires a self-declaration to provide evidence that you have worked as a nurse for at least two years (2500 hours) during the last five years.
  • CGFNS verification -college, nursing council and employment places.
  • CGFNS requires documentation of all nursing licenses held by you in the last five years
  • Pass English proficiency test:
    • For results after September 2018: you must achieve a minimum score of 350 for reading, listening, and speaking (C+ (300 – 340) is not considered a passing grade). For writing, you must achieve a minimum score of 300.
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
    • Only the Academic Module is accepted
    • You must achieve a minimum score of 7 for reading, listening, and speaking. For writing, you must achieve a minimum score of 6.5
    • You can achieve the minimum score in the English language tests over more than one sitting, however the required score must be met within 12 months of the first sitting of the test and met within three years of your CGFNS report being transmitted to Nursing Council.
  • Nursing council registration. The Nursing Council will assess your application against the seven registration standards and make a decision regarding your registration. You will be asked to make a declaration for fitness for registration and to complete a criminal history check.
  • You may be required to complete a Competence Assessment Programme (CAP) prior to registration.
  • Enrol for CAP
  • CAP acceptance
  • Filling of Visa
  • Entry in New Zealand
  • Complete the CAP and apply for job
  • Once you are registered, you will be asked to apply for an Annual Practising Certificate. This entitles you to practise as a nurse in New Zealand
  • Issuance of practising certificate
  • Sponsor family members and work as a registered nurse
  • Apply for permanent residency
  • Get New Zealand PR
