Exams:
Have you written a Canadian nursing regulatory exam (e.g., NCLEX-RN, CPNRE)?
You must submit two (2) government issued identification documents one of which must include your photo and a signature.
Please note:
- Identification documents must be provided to the College in order for your application to be processed.
- Document must be a clear, color image.
- You must upload two DIFFERENT pieces of identification. Each piece must be uploaded separately.
- You may be required to resubmit a document if it is poor quality.

English language proficiency test Required or not ?
Applicants must meet English Language Proficiency (ELP) through education, registration status, language proficiency testing, or experience. Applicants must review the College’s ELP fact sheet to determine if they need to submit a test of ELP or if they meet one of the other methods

Criminal Record Check:
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) dated within the last six (6) months is mandatory for the application process.
The CLPNNL policy related to the CRC/VSC can be found here. CLPNNL will accept an original paper or verified electronic version of the document from a local police detachment or the RCMP. Must be submitted within 8 weeks of approval of your temporary license.
If you obtain a CRC/VSC through local (NL) police or the RCMP, the original document will need to be submitted to the College via mail or drop off.
If you have an unsatisfactory criminal record check additional documentation may be required.
- Fee $200.90 + 30.14 HST = $231.04 (cheque or money order payable to CLPNNL or pay with credit card or debit)
Once deemed eligible for licensure in Newfoundland and Labrador you must apply for the first or second available for the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE)
A temporary license will be issued for 4 months to give applicants the opportunity to prepare for and write the CPNRE. The following must be submitted to process this license:
- Original criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check, not older than six (6) months before the date the license is to be processed.
- The initial licensure fee of $376.66 + HST $56.50 = $433.16 ($227.00 + $34.05 HST = $261.05 after December 1).
- Submit a certificate of completion for the Jurisprudence learning module.
When all fees and required documents have been received and deemed satisfactory, the license will be processed and the LPN’s name will be found on the FIND A NURSE section on the CLPNNL website.
